Does APBA accept owner surrenders?
We appreciate you reaching out to us and working to responsibly rehome your dog and are so sorry you aren't having the best luck finding permanent placement for them. We are a very small rescue and do not have a kennel facility and are unable to accept dogs from the public. We really wish we could be of more immediate assistance and that our resources weren't so limited, but as we do not receive any public funding and run off of donations, we are unable to take owner surrenders. We pull all of the dogs in our program from shelters where they are facing euthanasia and we are their "last chance".
PBRC has a web page with information on rehoming which you may find helpful. It has a lot of great information and suggestions. Hopefully, the information provided will be helpful to you as you work to rehome him/her: http://www.pbrc.net/adoption/owners.html.
We know this is a difficult process and that you did not come to this decision lightly. We wish we were able to take them all, but unfortunately we get so, so, so many requests we had to make the decision to focus on the "end of the line" (since a dog going to the shelter still has a chance of being adopted vs. a dog in the shelter facing euthanasia) and preventing dogs from ending up in the shelter through humane education and outreach.

Does APBA work with shelters outside the DC Metro Area?
Unfortunately, we are currently only able to partner with shelters in our immediate area. We have very strict policies on what dogs we accept into our program, which I'm sure you will understand. The shelters in our area are incredibly overwhelmed (as all are). As we’re entirely foster based and operate on extremely limited resources, as most rescues do, we feel we can make the greatest and most effective impact by focusing our efforts exclusively on supporting our shelter partners in the immediate area.
Also, we do our absolute best to save and responsibly rehome ambassadors for the breed and help to rebuild the reputation of pit bull type dogs. In order to ensure we do this to the best of our ability, we require that a board member meet each dog prior to pulling them or even networking them on our website. This often is not possible for dogs in shelters outside of our area.
Please know that if we had the resources to support shelters outside of our area would and hope that one day we grow to a point we can expand our reach. We wish that we were a bigger rescue and that there was more we could do. We wish you the best of luck in finding rescue placement for the dogs in your facilities and that they get the chance they deserve.
